I am a DONA trained Birth Doula, a Registered Nurse (RN), an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE), a Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis Doula (HCHD) and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE). I am in the process of completing my Gentle Birth Childbirth Instructor Training and my Aromatherapy for Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum Training.
Most importantly, I am the mother of two boys who were born naturally and exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months and continued for a long time (years). I am married and have two beautiful college-age step-daughters and two sweet dogs. I initially struggled with breastfeeding my first son and I have personal experience with many of the challenges with breastfeeding that new moms face. I feel grateful to have been able to breastfed my boys knowing the incredible health and bonding benefits it provides. It is a great mothering tool!
I have a BA in psychology from the University of Notre Dame, a BSN in Nursing from Cal State Hayward and many certifications (BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE, EFM). I have worked with expectant, laboring and new moms and their babies as a labor and delivery and postpartum nurse, group leader, and instructor since 2004 and love it. I took my Dona Birth Doula Training in 2002 while in nursing school so that I could “doula” the moms I supported as a labor and delivery nurse. My nursing school research projects were on pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management techniques in laboring women and on the effects of one-to-one nursing support on laboring women. I keep current on new research and am active in several professional organizations. I am a past board member of BALA, and a member of DONA International, Blossom Birth, Bay Area Birth Information (BABI), MDDC, ILCA, USLCA, Lamaze, AWHONN, CAM, AABC, AND ACNM.
